How businesses are pursuing Sustainability in Supply Chain ?

Hello Readers, This is Muhammad Jassim from Amrita School of Business Coimbaotore. Welcome to my Second Blog on Supply Chain. Hope you find it interesting and insightful. This week blog is all about Business pursuing Sustainability in Supply chain.

Sustainability is a global problem threatening most companies and a rising market for environmentally sustainable business processes.

The world is now making a concerted effort to reduce the pace of climate change and limit the temperature rise to below 1.5 degrees centigrade. This goal was set by the Paris Agreement, which means that emissions need to be reduced by 45% over the next 10 years.

Companies Big Impact

Sustainability has been part of mission statements to most companies for so many years. This means that they reduce energy consumption, recycle renewable resources and reduce emissions at several points in the supply chain. Both of these initiatives are contributing to a major change in businesses' economic and social motives, showing that they can still manufacture their goods and services without creating the environmental damage.

Environmental factors affect not only the sustainability of the supply chain, but also ethical factors such as the promotion of human rights, fair labor practices and anti-corruption policies. The United Nations Global Compact rates corporations' supply chain activities as "the greatest obstacle to boost their sustainability efficiency. "The scope and size of certain supply chains make the implementation of the Ten Principles of the Uni Global Compact a daunting challenge and requires comprehensive supply chain management.
