Automation is the most effective way to increase the efficiency of the manufacturers.It will help the manufacturers to reduce the cost and maximize the profit.Reduction of waste is also a plus point.
Reasons for automation :
- It will increase the productivity
- Cost for labor is high and also machines yield more output
- Substitute for labor as there is a lack of availability of sufficient labor
- Growing trend of labor attracted to service sector
- Safety concerns
- High cost of raw materials and use of automation will reduce wastage
- Improves the quality
- Reduces manufacturing lead time
- Reduces the in-process inventory
- Fixed automation : The sequence of processing the operations is fixed by the equipment configuration.
- Programmable automation: The operation sequence can be controlled by a program (set of instructions). The production equipment can change the sequence of operations as per product requirements
- Flexible automation: Can produce a variety of products without loosing time for reprogramming or altering physical setup. System can produce various combinations of products instead of having separate batches of production.
