Warehouse design concepts.

 Warehouse design concepts.

The warehouse design element targets to maximize the utility of space, equipment it and the operations efficiency.

The various elements are,

1) Warehouse location, layout and building

The ware house must be located immediately on a flat ground. It should be an easily approachable location and the area should be fit for the business. A location which is close to  national highways or markets is ideal.

Building should be normally constructed using galvanized metallic sheets mounted on c-section girdles. The flooring should be RCC concrete and should have a weight bearing capacity as per the required load. The ground should be smooth and flat and should facilitate MHE moments and should be dust free.

2) Internal layout

It will be built by taking into account the nature of goods, the operational process, volumes of transaction both inbound and outbound, in house operations, storage types and process requirements including kitting, packing etc and the availability of floor space coupled with the design layout of outbound and inbound docks.

3) Types of storage

This is determined by nature of the cargo. The cargo can be finished goods, raw material parts etc. The types of storage may vary from bulk stock, racking, self tracking, pallet racking, binning, lose pick face, carton pick etc. The storage type can vary with the nature of the business and storage type for drums, tires, cartons, pallets etc.

4) Racking designs and material handling equipment

This takes into account the storage unit, storage types, volume and weight coupled with roof height and floor space to design system in order to maximize the storage capacity.

Racking designs where is with the type of industry and nature of inventory.

Material handling equipment are specified based on rack design coupled with nature of the cargo, pallet design, weight and the warehouse layout etc.
