With more than 13000 passenger
trains, Indian Railways is the most predominant method of transportation for
People and goods, since its introduction in 1853. The private players are now
allowed in the market. Almost 7000 freight trains are operated in a day
carrying more than a million tons of cargo everyday with an average speed of 20
kmph. The Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC) project is expected to be the
game-changer in the Indian logistics industry. With currently two corridors,
West (1506 kms) and East (1337 kms), trains that are going to be operated, dedicated
to the transportation of goods at a maximum speed up to 100 kmph.
This project, if commences, the trains will replace the 4 lakh trucks that
carry cargo and the time taken for goods transportation will be
reduced, resulting in a huge saving of cost. Thus, it will create a new road ahead
for the prospect of Logistics Industry.
