Digital Twin Technology

Digital twin technology is one of the most popular logistic trend in 2020.The advent of digital twins technology helps us to engage with the digital model of a physical object or part just like we would with their physical counterparts . Any changes made to the physical object will be reflected in the digital model which was not possible earlier. This made parts and structures which are inaccessible by computer models to be included in the digital world which helped to engage with the corresponding digital model of a particular physical object or part.

Since digital twinning technology has unparalleled capabilities to track, monitor and diagnose assets, they have the potential to completely revolutionize logistics. Digital twinning technology will help to predict the performance of packaging materials. With the help of material digital twins, product packaging can be done  in a digital space and they can be tested for defects before being deployed. It also plays a crucial role in determining material feasibility for companies. They can also be used to determine design flaws as well as to monitor damages of reusable container fleets.

In the case of shipments and parcel deliveries, digital twins can be used  to collect data about the product as well as packaging and to improve future operations by identifying potential weaknesses using the information obtained.Digital twins is used by warehouses in order to create accurate 3 D models of their centers and to determine the impact of introducing a new equipment . Using digital twins, logistics hubs can increase their efficiency by testing different operations scenarios .Delivery networks can use the technology in order to provide real time information in order to improve delivery times.

  1. I believe this technology will be particularly useful in countries with low infrastructure such as ours. In us packing is done by robots whereas in India its being done manually. The products and the packing sometimes do get damaged as the logistics tend to overload products and improper handling of the products.
