How did Blue Dart operate every single day of Lockdown?

Welcome back Readers I’m Sivakami - A final year MBA student from Amrita School Of Business majoring in Marketing and operations. I have found my space to explore on the various verticals in the area of  Logistics and supply chain and of course not limited to theories and  empirical studies 😅. So come lets discover on our never ending territory 😇

I was fascinated to know that an Indian courier delivery service was operating every single day during the 'nationwide lock down'. There is always an uncertainty accompanied by disruption, but the extent to which the company's supply chain is agile and adaptable to such uncertainties tells us everything. Blue dart express with the partnership with ‘lifeline Udan’ actively played a crucial role in maintaining the supply chain of all essential items when the lockdown was enforced. Infact, Blue Dart grabbed the pandemic as an opportunity to strengthen their supply chain. Did kulkarni, CMO predict that the virus would spread across borders and oceans? Obviously No. None of us predicted the rapid spread of virus in days. None of us had any idea about how to react to this pandemic situation other than staying safe at home.

How?

Blue Dart’s ability to  navigate the supply chain chaos and strategize themselves accordingly. Their challenge was not just delivering the products fast enough but also to operate in a new environment of health and safety system perpetuated with social distancing, hygiene and additional cleaning. Apparently , blue dart adopted Contact Less Delivery (CLD) and safety precautions to protect the safety of the employees and customers by adhering stringent social distancing and zero physical contact norms with strict safety standards and procedures. Adding to it, they exclusively made digitization of payments  They also provided adequate training to the employees and frontliners on digitization, health and safety.

Digitized Innovation and technology - the key takeaways in the post pandemic world

In such hard times it is surprising that the company had no disruptions. Bluedart also had its own challenges in bottlenecks. In order to enhance customer experience during the pandemic, they developed a network modelling system which helps in responding to the dynamic environment. Thereby, recommending fast and reliable networks between origin and destination.

They enhanced their Application programming interface (API) to help the customers track their orders and also manifest at detailed levels to ensure a smooth supply chain. Nevertheless, they also enabled solutions to provide quality control checks and image verification and timely pickup by deploying analytical tools.

They transported the essential via air and on ground adopting the latest technologies by enhancing their emerging technologies  and also adapting to the new disruptive work environment to ensure that they provide value to customers amidst the disruption. A shift from traditional delivery services to AI based supply chain spiked Blue Dart’s agility in operating rapidly, efficiently and effectively.
