Io T integration in Logistics

I am Aswith Krishna Asok pursuing MBA in Amrita School of Business,Coimbatore.Recently I came across an article about Io T integration in logistics and here are some of the insights that I gathered.

The Internet of Things is a connection of physical devices that monitor and transfer data via the internet and without human intervention. Io T in logistics provides transparency in every level of the supply chain and improves the efficiency of inventory management. Integrating Io T technology into the logistics and supply chain industries improves and enables efficiency, transparency, real-time visibility of goods, condition monitoring, and fleet management.

A few companies that have begun to utilize this technology include,

1)Fleetroot-Fleet Management

United Arab Emirates-based startup Fleetroot offers an Io T platform for companies to control and manage their fleet. Fleetroot offers fuel management solutions to fleet managers by providing fuel consumption and wastage reports. The platform helps monitor the performance of a vehicle and sends critical alerts to the system using sensors and devices embedded in the vehicle. The data is then analyzed along with the historical data in order to predict and plan the maintenance of fleets. Fleetroot also offers route optimization and delivery solutions for the transportation of goods.

2)Ambrosus

Belizean startup Ambrosus build a Block chain based end-to-end Io T network for the food and pharma supply chain sectors. The network provides tools to analyze the data transferred between the sensors, distributed ledgers, and databases for optimizing the supply chain. The platform offers accurate tracking of shipments throughout the supply chain, thus ensuring the quality and authenticity of products by leveraging block chain technology.

3)Maersk Line

Maersk is one of the largest players in the shipping world. Their operations deliver fresh produce to 343 ports across 121 countries and  it also has a hugely complex and crucial supply chain.

In order to resolve this, the Danish company partnered with Ericsson in 2012 to install real-time monitoring across its entire fleet with Ericsson’s mobile and satellite communications technology. The partnership has gradually developed to include safety, efficiency and cargo care.

Ericsson’s technology now allows Maersk’s 300,000 refrigerated containers to transmit vital stats, such as temperature, location and power supply,  real time, via satellite. The information is sent to the cloud and analyzed in a central office.
