Green logistics or Eco-logistics aims to move and deliver the raw materials and products at the lowest cost, also maintains the highest standards by minimizing environmental impact in the process. This concept of logistics mainly affects the configurations of the process, structures, and equipment in the transport, distribution, and also for storage of goods.
The main aim of green logistics is
for finding the balance between ecology and also the economy. There are several
objectives of green logistics such as for measuring the carbon footprint of the
logistics operations especially for establishing the starting point for
considering sustainability measures and also controlling the results. Green
logistics helps in reducing air, soil, water, and noise pollution by analyzing
the effects of each logistics area which are related to transport. Also uses
supplies by reusing containers and also recycling the packages. They spread
sustainability to the supply chain. Eco-logistics also shapes the design of
products and their packages by designing in such a way by minimizing the
environmental impact.
Several challenges are faced by
green logistics today due to several causes such as dependence on fossil fuel
especially in transport, last-mile
deliveries have an impact on urban traffic, due to lack of infrastructure, also
businesses needed to be invested, and the invisibility of logistics mainly to
the consumers. The green logistics
strategy can be applied by including eco-friendly criteria mainly in the
procurement policies, by optimizing transport fleet management, having a
warehouse that mainly follows sustainable construction and management
standards, by enabling measures for reducing and recycling the waste produced
mainly in the warehouses, also improves stock management and reverse the
logistics pressure.
