How Election process is a supply Chain!!!

Hello everyone, I am Peeyush Pareek, pursuing my MBA second year from Amrita School of Business, Coimbatore. In this blog I am going to share ” How Election process is a supply Chain”

India is the largest democratic country in the world. Our democracy depends on 'Of the People, by the People, for the People'. The people of the country have been given a right and that is the 'Right to Vote'. Using this right, people of our country elect the government of our country. When India became independent in 1947, the biggest problem was election but India elected its First Government with Voting.  After That, India Changed itself in voting process for Transparent Government.

Many years after independence, elections were held with the help of ballot paper from Sarpanch level to Lok Sabha elections. In this process, the names of all the election candidates were written on a paper and the voter used to stamp on his favourite Candidate. After this, voter put this ballot paper in the ballot box and these ballots were taken to the counting centre, where these ballot papers were counted and based on that result would come. This process was human capital intense and needed a lot of care and time to conclude and give results. Machine interaction was highly required to make this process fast and error less. Later these ballots were replaced by EVMs or electronic voting machines.

In 1982, EVMs were used for the first time in India. After that it was fully debuted in the 1998 assembly election in Rajasthan, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. Actually, an EVM is a machine in which the names of all the candidates are written in a list and the voters press the button for vote in front of their favourite candidate. With the introduction of EVMs, the voting and counting process has become much easier. In this machine, all candidates have a code, through which the counting of votes is done. The special thing is that paper is not misused by it and their transformation is also very easy. This makes the voting process much easier.

At the time when elections were held in the country with ballot paper, at that time many domineering people went to the polling booth and picked up several papers and voted in their Favour and put them in the voting box. Along with, At the same time it was difficult to carry the ballot boxes and then it was difficult to count many papers simultaneously. many staff had to be employed for vote counting. Now after the voting, EVMs are taken to the counting centre, where the result revealed by just pressing a button. With this, the result of the election is revealed soon with the help of less people.

First of all, EVMs are sent for testing before voting. After this, from the electoral parties to the election and administration officials examine them and see that there is nothing wrong in them. After this, all the EVMs are given to the Presiding Officer before the polling and they take it to the polling station. After this, at the polling station, candidates also give sample vote for test. After this, they are put to vote and after the voting, they are sealed and sent to the counting centre. Here they are opened in front of the candidates at the counting centre and the votes of the candidates are counted and Results are declared.

The voting system in India has completely changed, but there are still many challenges. It is alleged that EVMs are also hacked and voted on. However, no evidence has yet been found. In such a situation, now the Election Commission has also arranged VVPAT along with voting machine, in which after casting the vote, the voter can see the election symbol with the name and photo of their candidate, which ensures that you have cast the vote to the same person.

This shows how a vote converts into a democracy and the parliament is run to decide the governance, same as a material converts into a finished product which is used for better life to live.  It has also seen modernization, uses logistics, manpower, information, the cash to conduct polls is huge and gives a product which is part of every citizens life. This is a supply chain which is very important for every Indian Citizen. So, I request you all to Vote, and see the democracy is formed out of it.
