Greetings I’m Suriya Kumar, Pursuing MBA at Amrita School of Business. This
blog is about the process that drew my interest for how AI is being used in
transforming a store’s supply chain process.
For any store, optimizing a product's on shelf availability becomes its
operational priority and to maintain the levels of stock with respect to their
shelf-life has become the necessity. Typically for any product with a short
shelf life like (Milk, Fresh juice, etc) they have to be replenished
continuously and monitoring this as batches in order to prevent any stock outs,
might become even more easier if physical methods combines with
technology.
This is now automated!!
Automatic stock out detection by geo located digital labels that have codes through which the security camera reads and sends the precise location and information of the product over cloud. The security cameras are also programmed with technology that can automatically detect misplaced products or empty aisle in the stores along with the products linked with the aisle by reading their digital tags.
From this data the store’s integrated technology with AI can visualize the map of the store and point out the location of such anomalies supported with Augmented Reality. Hence with such AI implementation in stores it becomes simple for such issues being addressed in real time and replenishment can happen way more efficiently.
This make the business interlinked as well, because when a stock insufficiency is detected by the AI it automatically alerts the system and the procurement process can happen right away using every technology that is available. And this can be aided with SAP’s ERP, MRP, inventory management and procurement solutions too.
